Vol. 27 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - IMPORTATION OF BARLEY.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether it is intended to prohibit the importation of foreign barley into the Saorstát until homegrown barley is disposed of at a price which would pay the farmer to grow it.

The answer is in the negative. I would refer the Deputy to my statement on this subject on the adjournment of the Dáil on 25th ult. in connection with a similar question asked by Deputy Aird, and also to the reply given to Deputy Moore on 8th instant.

In view of the low prices for cattle and pigs does the Minister think that it is a paying proposition for farmers to hold barley for feeding purposes?

Mr. HOGAN

I think it is a paying proposition for some farmers, but it is not a paying proposition for others.
