asked the Minister for Justice whether he will state the number of Gárda Síochána stationed in each of the 26 Counties of the Saorstát, and (1) the number of political or treasonable charges and the number of convictions obtained in each county; (2) the number of charges for civil and criminal offences made, and the number of convictions obtained in each county.
CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - GUARDS AND POLITICAL CHARGES.
As regards the number of Gárda Síochána stationed in each of the 26 counties of the Saorstát, I have caused the necessary particulars to be circulated for the information of the Deputy. The interrogatories in the rest of the Deputy's question are not directed to anything specific capable of specific answer, and if the Deputy wishes to pursue what he has in mind I must ask him to reconsider the form of his question.
Return showing number of members of the Gárda Síochána stationed in each County in Saorstát Eireann on the 1st November, 1928.

May I ask the Minister whether there is not some system by which statistics of crime are kept by the Department?
Statistics of crime are kept, but the Deputy's question is one that I do not follow as far as its meaning is concerned. Also, he does not mention any periods of time.
