Vol. 28 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rent Restrictions Acts—Partial Expiration.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that undue advantage of the partial expiration of the Rent Restrictions Acts, is being taken by property owners, against Town Tenants' interests; whether he can state if the recommendations of the Town Tenants Commission have been considered and whether he will state the date upon which proposals for legislation will be introduced in conformity with such recommendations.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. The report of the Town Tenants Commission has been considered but the final decision thereon has not yet been taken. I hope to be in a position to introduce legislation on the subject at an early date.

Can we have an assurance from the Minister that in view of the fact that the Rent Restrictions Act will expire in June that the legislation will be brought before the House in time to enable it to be passed before June?
