Vol. 28 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Position of Transferred D.M.P.

asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the agreement under Article X. of the Treaty, he will state the present position of the transferred officers of the Dublin Metropolitan Police who joined prior to 1921, and if claims for the refund of the amounts of their salaries deducted by way of reduction will be entertained, and further, whether those who elect to remain in the force will be paid on present rates.

The position of the transferred members of the Dublin Metropolitan Police is not affected by the agreement mentioned in the Deputy's question except that any question relating to compensation under Article X. of the Treaty that may be raised by any such transferred member will fall to be determined by the proposed statutory tribunal.

Claims of the nature referred to by the Deputy will not be entertained.

The pay of serving members of the Dublin Metropolitan Division of the Gárda Síochána will be in accordance with the rates, scales and conditions laid down in the Gárda Síochána Pay Order, 1927, so long as that Order remains in force.

In the event of a transferred officer at present serving in the Gárda desiring to retire under Article X. before the day given, would he then have a claim for a refund of the reduction in his salary?

No. The period for retirement has passed for members of the Gárda Síochána.
