Vol. 28 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Salaries of Transferred Civil Servants.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will give (a) a return of Civil Servants whose basic salary, at the time their services were taken over by the Saorstát, was £600 per annum and over; (b) their present salaries, and (c) their stations previous to appointments under the Saorstát.

Information under the headings stated in the Deputy's question is not found necessary for official purposes and no return in the form indicated is available. Inquiries necessary to ascertain the details and the compilation of the information, when obtained, would involve a good deal of time and labour, and changes in the service would soon render the return obsolete. Unless, therefore, there were urgent reasons necessitating this return, I do not think it should be undertaken.

Am I to take it from the Minister's reply that there would be a great number of such civil servants?

I do not know.

The Minister's statement is that this would involve a large amount of work, and I take it that would imply that there would be a great number of such officers in the service?

The inquiry would involve a good deal of labour.
