Vol. 28 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Scartaglin Gárda Station.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he will state (a) the cost of the erection of the Gárda Síochána station at Scartaglin, Co. Kerry; (b) the cost of the purchase of the site for the station; (c) if the building as it now stands is regarded as unfit for habitation; (d) if the Minister is aware that the present station is only four miles from Castleisland Gárda Síochána station, and, if he will, in the interests of economy, close down the Scartaglin station instead of erecting a new one.

I am informed by the Board of Works that the cost of erection of the Gárda Síochana station at Scartaglin was £1,355, and that the cost of the site was £80. The building is not unfit for habitation. I am satisfied that the maintenance of a station in this village is necessary for the proper policing of the sub-district, which covers an area of 43 square miles and has a population of over 3,000.
