Vol. 28 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Scartaglin School.

asked the Minister for Education (a) whether the medical officer for Scartaglin, Co. Kerry, has repeatedly complained of the overcrowding of Scartaglin school; (b) whether he is aware that plans for the extension of this school were submitted over six months ago; and (c) if he will now state the cause of the delay in carrying out the work.

(a) I am not aware that the medical officer for Scartaglin has complained of the overcrowding of the school. The accommodation, however, is insufficient for the attendance. (b) A suitable plan for the extension of the school building has been prepared by the Board of Public Works, and my Department is in communication with the manager on the question of the provision of the local contribution. (c) The work of building cannot be begun until a State grant has been sanctioned, and this sanction must await the provision of funds for the building and improvement of national schools in the coming financial year.
