Vol. 29 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Depositors in British Post Office Savings Bank.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he has yet consulted the recommendations set forth in the Fourth Interim Report of the Banking Commission with regard to the desirability of inducing the transfer of £6,000,000 (approximately) lying to the credit of Saorstát depositors in the British Post Office Savings Bank; and, if so, whether he will state the terms of the decision which has been reached.

Due consideration was given to the recommendations set forth in the Fourth Interim Report of the Banking Commission with regard to the desirability of inducing the transfer of £6,000,000 (approximately) lying to the credit of Saorstát depositors in the British Post Office Savings Bank, and appeals have been made both in the Press and in leaflets, which have been distributed to the number of 2½ millions, to investors to place their deposits in the Saorstát Savings Bank both on national and economic grounds.

The deposits with the British Savings Bank have been reduced by about £1,000,000 a year.
