Vol. 29 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waterford Nurse's Salary.

Seán Ua Guilidhe

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health why sanction was refused the proposal of Waterford Co. Board of Health to increase salary of district nurse, Josephine Leonard, Ballymacarby, Clonmel, from £40 to £60.

Following representations made by my Department increases in remuneration of midwives in Waterford County were given by the County Board of Public Assistance, where such were warranted by the extent of duties. In the case raised by the Deputy the duties performed did not warrant an increase.

Why discriminate between this part of the county and other parts of the county? The statement says that increases in the remuneration of midwives were given where such were warranted by the extent of the duties. The duties of this particular nurse may increase at any time.

I could not give the reasons to the Deputy. I do not know them.
