Vol. 29 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sickness Benefit Claim.

Seán Ua Guilidhe

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state on what grounds sickness benefit has been denied to William Ryan, Villierstown, Cappoquin, Co. Waterford, despite the fact that the applicant is certified unable to work.

William Ryan was an insured member of the SS. Otteran and Carthage Health Insurance Society up to the 7th June, 1923, on which date his insurance and membership were terminated. As the result of a complaint received by the Insurance Commission, steps have been taken to ascertain whether or not he was entitled to have had his insurance extended beyond that date by virtue of the provisions of the Prolongation of Insurance Act, 1921. The Commission's inquiries are not yet completed.

I may take that if the inquiry is in favour of the applicants, it will be made retrospective?

It depends on what the result of the inquiry is, I take it.
