asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he can state or give an estimate of the number of persons removed from the membership registers of Approved Societies as a result of the lapsing of the Prolongation of Insurance Act, 1921.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Removals from Approved Societies' Registers.
Reliable particulars of the number are not available. An estimate supplied by Approved Societies on unaudited figures is 107,385. The Insurance Commission are, however, of opinion that the total includes large numbers of persons formerly insured, who had been wrongly treated as entitled to prolongation of insurance owing to failure or neglect by societies to make proper inquiries. Such cases would include all those who had ceased to be insured owing to change of society without notice, death, emigration, change of occupation, and increase of remuneration.
