Vol. 29 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rod Fishing in Wexford.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if any record exists in his Department of a conference which took place in the City Hall, Dublin, in June, 1922, between Mr. H.C. Burgess and the late Mr. John Bolger, Ferns, lessees of the salmon fishing from Enniscorthy Bridge to the mouth of the Bann at Scarawalsh, and the present Minister for Agriculture (then Minister for Fisheries), an Inspector of Fisheries, and the late Mr. Michael Collins, at which conference an arrangement was arrived at fixing a boundary at the Magpie Hole, between which and Enniscorthy Bridge a number of rod-men from the town of Enniscorthy could fish.

There is no record in my Department of any such conference or arrangement as is mentioned in the question. There is a record that on 7th February, 1922, Mr. Bolger called at the offices of the Department of Agriculture of the Provisional Government with reference to certain facilities which he was proposing to give under permit to some six fishermen to fish in his waters during that season, but the proposals related to that season only and were not a matter in which any Department of State had any jurisdiction.
