asked the Minister for Finance whether he will state the number of Civil Servants at present employed in each of the following classes:—Temporary Clerks; Writing Assistants; Established Typists and Shorthand Typists: Unestablished Typists and Shorthand Typists; Clerical Officers; Staff Officers in receipt of salaries of £200-£300; Staff Officers in receipt of salaries of £250-£300; Junior Executive Officers; Junior Administrative Officers; Higher Executive Officers; Assistant Principal Officers; Principal Clerks in receipt of salaries of £550-£700; Principal Clerks in receipt of salaries between £600 and £800; Principal Clerks in receipt of salaries of £700-£900; and Officers in receipt of salaries of £900-£1,200.

The answer to this question is mainly tabular, and I propose to circulate it in the Official Report.

The following are the numbers of officers of the classes mentioned up to and including the Junior Administrative grade serving on the 1st January, 1929 (i.e., the latest date for which complete returns are available).
