Vol. 30 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of Dalgan River.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he will state if a scheme for the drainage of the Dalgan River, Logboy district, County Mayo, is being considered by the Board of Works; whether he will state what is the decision of the Board in this matter, and if there is any likelihood of this work being completed in the near future.

The Commissioners of Public Works have received a petition under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1925, from the Mayo County Council in respect of the drainage of the Clare (Dalgan) River from Bunnadober (above Ballyhaunis) to a point about half a mile below Mill-brook Bridge. This district—with which it is proposed to combine some tributary schemes—has been inspected by an engineer, but it extends into three counties, Mayo, Galway and Roscommon, and petitions complying with the requirements of the Act have not yet been received from the County Councils of Galway and Roscommon. The Commissioners are in communication with the local people and the county councils on the matter, and they cannot proceed with the further investigation of the proposal until they get the petitions.

There is no prospect of actual works being begun in the near future.
