Vol. 32 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - France and the Saorstát.

Mr. Byrne

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will state whether negotiations have been proceeding between the Saorstát and France for the setting up of a commercial treaty on the most favoured nation basis; and whether he will state if these negotiations have broken down; and, if so, whether in view of the fact that French imports are four times greater in value than Saorstát exports to France, what action, if any, he proposes to take to equalise the trade relations of the two countries.

Mr. Hogan

Negotiations are proceeding with the French Government with a view to the conclusion of a commercial treaty between the Saorstát and France regulating the trade relations of the two countries. The second part of the question accordingly does not arise.
