Vol. 32 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral—Answers. - French Government and Proposed Tariff Holiday.

Mr. Byrne

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will state whether France was one of the nations which supported the economic proposal at the recent League of Nations assembly at Geneva for a two years' European Tariff Holiday; and whether he can state if it is the intention of the French Government to restrict the importation of foreign wheat, and to considerably increase the customs duty to safeguard the cultivators of home-grown beet.

The first part of the question was answered on 28th ultimo. The French Government has recently introduced Bills regulating the conditions under which wheat may be imported and increasing the customs duties on imported sugar.
