Vol. 32 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral—Answers. - Westmeath Bog Petition.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state why the petition of the people using Watterstown Bog, Harris-Temple Estate, Westmeath, was not dealt with.

The petition referred to was fully considered, and an inspector attended on the lands and heard the views of tenants using Watterstown Bog. He explained to them the scheme of improvement work proposed to be carried out by the Land Commission, and they expressed their satisfaction with it.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the Land Commission inspector made an appointment with the secretary to the petitioners, that he cancelled that appointment afterwards and that he came down and carried out a drainage scheme for one man who had not signed the petition at all and left the other petitioners alone, left them waterlogged and without a way of getting out their turf?

Every one of the memorialists expressed complete satisfaction with the scheme carried out by the Land Commission.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary advise the petitioners to join the local Masonic Lodge?
