Vol. 33 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Immature Timber.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that immature timber is being cut down over several large areas at present in the Saorstát, and whether he intends to use the powers given him by the Forestry Act, 1928.

I am aware that a certain amount of immature timber is always being cut down wherever there are woods. If the Deputy can furnish particulars of exceptionally extensive cutting of this nature I shall have the matter noted with a view to taking such action as may be found feasible when the Forestry Act comes into operation in the near future.

Will the Minister say when the Forestry Act will come into operation? It is almost three years since it was passed.

Mr. Hogan

I could not say the exact date. I have forgotten it at the moment, but the date has been fixed.

Is not the matter in your hands?

Mr. Hogan

The date has actually been fixed and we have all the arrangements made. At the moment I do not remember the exact date.
