Vol. 33 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Child Welfare Nurses.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether the nurses employed on child welfare work by the Dublin Corporation are paid wholly out of public funds; whether their salaries, conditions of service and superannuation rights are comparable with those enjoyed by the nurses employed by the Corporation on school medical inspection and tuberculosis work; and, if not, whether the Minister would be prepared to take steps to place the child welfare nurses on the same footing as the other nurses.

These nurses are paid from public funds. They are not pensionable. The question of according them pensionable status has been recently fully considered by the Dublin City Commissioners who, I understand, have not seen their way to incorporate the nurses in the municipal staff at present, as a fundamental alteration of the principle upon which the organisation of their welfare services in Dublin has proceeded would thereby be involved.
