Vol. 33 No. 13

Written Answers. - Vesting of Meath Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state the R.O. number, area and situation of lands in Co. Meath not yet vested and coming under (a) Land Act, 1903, and (b) Land Act, 1923.

(a) The total area in County Meath the subject of proceedings under the Land Acts, 1903-09 not yet vested in purchasers is approximately 6,000 acres. (b) The total area of tenanted land in County Meath in respect of which maps and schedules of particulars have been lodged with the Land Commission under the Land Act, 1923, but which have not yet been vested is, so far as at present can be ascertained, 92,000 acres, but of this area 49,000 acres have been provisionally gazetted preparatory to vesting and will be vested as soon as objections to provisional lists have been disposed of and such outstanding matters as the provision of turbary, drainage and embankments, retention and re-arrangement of holdings, etc., have been settled. The total area of untenanted land in County Meath which is definitely in process of acquisition under the Land Acts, 1923-9, but not yet vested in the Land Commission, is 8,800 acres, and in addition over 40,000 acres in this county are the subject of inquiries with a view to suitability for purchase. The Deputy will realise that I could not possibly ask the Land Commission to withdraw a number of their staff from Land Purchase work in order to compile such a detailed list of holdings as he requests, and I cannot see what useful purpose such a list would serve.
