Vol. 36 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Payment of Motor Tax.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is prepared to consider the permitting of payment of motor tax in quarterly payments without any increase over the annual rate.

It would not be possible, without substantial loss to the Road Fund and a heavy addition to the duties of the licensing authorities, to permit payment of motor licence duty in the way suggested.

May I ask the Minister if what he has in his mind is the possibility of people taking out quarterly licences for three-quarters, and not for the first quarter, and that that means a loss to the Revenue?

The Deputy has a different thing in mind from what is in the question.

I would like to ask if the Minister is aware of the fact that there are a number of taxi drivers and small commercial men who use trucks who have to pay an imposition of 20 per cent. increase in taking out licences on a quarterly basis. It is for these people I speak. I want to know if the Minister would allow these people to pay the quarterly licences at the same rate as the annual licences.

If the Deputy has any matter he would care to place before the Department for consideration I would glad if he would do so.
