Vol. 36 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Freights on Home-grown Grain.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he has received representations regarding the high freight rates on home-grown grain, and whether he will take steps to have representations made to the railway authorities with a view to a reduction in rates compatible with the low grain prices now prevailing.

No representations of the kind mentioned have been made to me. Any discussion which may be desired with the railway companies would best be arranged by the consignors of grain themselves.

Did the Minister not receive communications from Kilkenny County Council?

No representations of the kind have been received by me.

Has the Minister not received communications from the Kilkenny County Council and the Kilkenny Agricultural Committee?

I have already answered that.

The Minister has not answered the question as to whether he has got the resolution.

I was asked if I had received representations, and I said no.

Are we to take it the Minister is going to take no action in this matter?

Not on foot of representations not received.

One of the largest grain merchants in Kilkenny and the local authorities concerned have made representations not alone to the Minister, but to his colleague, the Minister for Agriculture, when he was in the constituency.

No representations have been received by me.
