Vol. 36 No. 7

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Darcy Estate (Co. Galway).

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will state if it is the intention of the Land Commission to acquire any lands other than Rockfield, from Mr. J.J. Darcy, Newforest, Co. Galway, for relief of congestion in the Darcy Estate.

The Land Commission have acquired from Mr. James Darcy 977 acres of the lands of Rockfield East and others, and have deferred the question of the acquisition of any other part of this property.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that Rockfield—it is well known by the name and deserves no other name—consists of 300 acres and that there are only about 25 acres of arable land? Mr. Darcy has another farm—Killasmuggaun—which is in a very congested area.

It is not proposed to take any further action at the moment for the acquisition of any other lands of Mr. Darcy.

Of course it is quite easy to understand why Mr. Hogan has a say in these things.
