Vol. 36 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment in Carlow and Kilkenny.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he can state how the Relief Schemes Vote will be expended in towns and villages where no schemes are or are about to be put forward for the relief of unemployment, and whether, in view of the fact that most towns in the counties of Carlow and Kilkenny are not urbanised, and that depression in agricultural conditions are so evident, he can state how he intends to expedite matters with a view to relieving the unemployed problem in those districts.

It is not the experience of the Department that relief schemes have not been brought fortowns and villages. My Department has been in communication with the County Council of Kilkenny and is in correspondence with the County Surveyor in regard to commencing additional works in that County. Definite proposals have not yet been submitted.
