Vol. 36 No. 9

Written Answers. - Housing Position Under the Gaeltacht Act.

Tomás Mac Giolla Phóil

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will state the cause of the delay in dealing with the applications in not only the Breach Gaeltacht, but in the Fior Gaeltacht, e.g., the parishes of Moycullen, Spiddal, and Barna; and whether, in view of the fact that a year has now gone by since the passing of the Housing (Gaeltacht) Act, 1929, and that the housing question has become still more acute, he will look into the matter and speed up the work in the Department dealing with this side of the Gaeltacht administration.

Some delay has arisen owing to the necessity for employing only competent Gaelic speakers in connection with this work. This difficulty has now been overcome, and the work of dealing with applications has been greatly accelerated.

Tomás Mac Giolla Phóil

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will state the cause of the delay in dealing with the application of Michael Neilan, Gortahulla, Moycullen, County Galway, for a loan and grant under the Housing (Gaeltacht) Act, 1929; and whether, in view of the fact that this applicant's house was burned down in May last, and that he is since living in an unsuitable galvanised iron shed, steps will now be taken to have this application dealt with, so that the building of the proposed house may be proceeded with without further delay.

I cannot trace an application from the person named by the Deputy. I am having a form of application now sent to him.
