Vol. 37 No. 17

Written Answers. - Acquisition of Islandeady Lands (Mayo).

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he is aware that there are over 100 tenants in the parish of Islandeady whose poor law valuations are under £5 each; and if he will now state whether the Irish Land Commission are about to acquire the grazing ranch, over 400 acres, held by Mr. Matthew Fahy, Claggernagh West, parish of Islandeady, for relief of congestion.

The Land Commission are aware of the congestion existing in the neighbourhood of the lands of Claggernagh West, held by Mr. Matthew Fahy, and are endeavouring to acquire these lands for relief of the congestion. These lands were purchased under the Land Purchase Acts, and it is understood that the owner, who is not willing to sell, would be prepared to accept an exchange. The Land Commission are not at present in a position to provide Mr. Fahy with a suitable holding in exchange for the lands of Claggernagh.
