Vol. 39 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dingle Compensation Claim.

asked the Minister for Finance to state when it is his intention to determine finally the amount of compensation to be paid Mr. S. J. Baker, Main Street, Dingle, for damage to his house and property (estimated at £500 by an independent contractor) during the occupation of the house by the Irish National Army in 1922 and 1923 and the amount of compensation for serious loss of health to the late Mrs. Baker and Miss Baker who were as a result of the occupation continually under doctors' care.

Compensation totalling over £150 was paid to Mr. Baker by the Department of Defence in respect of the occupation of his premises by the troops, including compensation for damage due to wear and tear, and in respect of items of damage not covered by these payments the Board of Works, after careful inspection of the premises, have assessed and offered a sum of £13. The item in Mr. Baker's claim for loss of health is not an item which can be admitted.
