Vol. 39 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Servants' Registry Offices.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether his attention has been directed to the proceedings in the Dublin Police Court on June 3rd last, when the employer of Caroline Moran (who was being prosecuted) alleged she engaged the defendant through a servants' registry office; whether he has read the statement concerning the registry office of the District Justice as published in the "Evening Herald" on June 3rd; whether, having regard to the provision of Article 2 of the International Convention concerning unemployment and Article 1 of the recommendation concerning unemployment adopted at Washington in October, 1919, he can state the position with regard to the carrying on of servants' registry offices in the Saorstát.

My attention has been drawn to a report of these proceedings, published in the Press on 3rd June, 1931. Article 2 of the Convention concerning unemployment has no application to servants' registries which charge fees, and the recommendation concerning unemployment has not been adopted by the Saorstát.

There is no statutory restriction on registry offices which charge fees for their services.
