Vol. 40 No. 20

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Estate Improvement and Acreage of Untenanted Land.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries to state the amounts expended on (a) estate improvement, and (b) relief grants in each county in the Saorstát in the years 1927-8, 1928-9, 1929-30, and 1930-31, respectively.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state by counties the acreage of untenanted land acquired, or in process of acquisition, during the year 1930-31.

I will take the Deputy's two questions together. Returns are being prepared and will be sent to the Deputy when completed.

Is there any objection to publishing these returns in the official Report.

The report will be available within a fortnight or less.

The Deputy is talking about the Dáil Report, the Parliamentary Secretary about another report.

The Land Commission Report.

Will these returns be published in the Official Report?

There is no objection.

Provided they are available before the report is published.

The reason I ask is that when returns have been promised they are not printed in the Official Report. If it is a question of economy perhaps the Parliamentary Secretary will let us know in the future whether he is to publish them or not.

These reports are available every year. They are brought up to date every year.

When I asked previously for returns, they have been sent to me, but they were not printed in the Official Report. I want to know the reason.

Unless the Deputy asks for them there is no use in undergoing the expense of publishing them in the Official Report except there is some special reason.

The special reason is for the special information of Deputies.

Is it not usual to include in the Official Report an answer which is in the form of a tabular statement?

If it is available.

I am not aware of any case where it was not done.
