asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that the County Kilkenny Board of Health are not availing of the provisions of the Housing and Labourers Acts for the erection of cottages and houses to the full extent of the needs of the people in that county; and if he will state the number of applications received for grants towards the erection of cottages and houses under these Acts by that Board, and if he will have an inquiry made in the matter.

The Kilkenny Board of Health have recently accepted tenders for the erection of 75 cottages of which 14 are in progress. Representations for the erection of a further 278 cottages have been received by the Board and referred to a sites committee with a view to selecting suitable sites. An inspector has been instructed to call upon the Board of Health to urge greater expedition in completing the improvement scheme.
