Vol. 48 No. 9

Additional Estimate. - Local Government (Extension of Franchise) Bill, 1933—Committee Stage.

(1) In this Act—
the expression "qualifying date" means any 15th day of November subsequent to the passing of this Act;
the expression "first qualifying date" means the 15th day of November which occurs next after the passing of this Act;
the word "person" does not include a body corporate or an unincorporated body of persons.
(2) This Act shall be read and construed as one with the Local Government Electors Registration Act, 1924 (No. 7 of 1924), and with so much of the Representation of the People Act, 1918, and the Electoral Act, 1923 (No. 12 of 1923), as relates or is applicable to local government franchise or the registration of local government electors

I move amendment I for Deputy Dockrell:—

In sub-section (1) to delete lines 18 and 19.

When the Bill in respect of the reconstitution of the Corporation of Cork, known as the Cork City Bill, was moved here, a representation came in rather late from the business people in Cork to give votes to persons who were directors of public companies. There was a doubt in certain cases, where there are extensive premises, whether they had any vote in respect of those premises. I presume that is the intention with regard to this amendment, and I move it for Deputy Dockrell.

Question—"That the lines proposed to be deleted stand"—put and declared carried.

That precludes the moving of amendments Nos. 2, 3 and 4.

Sections 1 to 3 inclusive put and agreed to.
Amendment No. 5 not moved.
Sections 4 and 5 agreed to.
Title agreed to.
Bill reported without amendments.
Report Stage fixed for Wednesday, 28th June.
