Vol. 52 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Summer Time.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that, generally speaking, the Summer Time Act has not and is not being adopted by the rural community, who are the majority of our people, and in the circumstances if he will revoke the Order bringing such Act into operation and enable people to live their lives according to God's time.

I have no evidence that the operation of the Summer Time Act is unacceptable to the majority of the people of this country and I do not propose to take any action in the matter.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, surely he is aware that, as stated in the question, the majority of the rural community are suffering as a result of the adoption of summer time and does he know that this affects the country people so far as the post office, the railways, the schools and the law courts are concerned? Is he aware of recent reports in the Press where numbers of litigants were late for the courts through the summer time system being in operation?

They must not be keeping proper time.
