Vol. 54 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Relief Schemes.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in respect of relief schemes, divided according to the ordinary categories, the average weekly wage paid in each of the years 1929, 1930, 1931, 1932, 1933 and (estimated) 1934 to those obtaining employment under such schemes, stating in respect of each category what deductions, if any, were made for (1) national health insurance, (2) unemployment insurance and (3) anything else.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state for each of the years 1930, 1931, 1932, 1933 and to estimate for the year 1934 the amount of money provided (1) from general taxation and (2) out of local taxation on all types of relief schemes (including road work where such was beyond the normal yearly requirements and brought forward by way of relief), and to estimate for each of these years in terms, of average numbers of persons employed weekly the employment given thereby.

I shall answer these two questions together. The collection of the information asked for by the Deputy in Questions Nos. 20 and 21 would involve an amount of time and labour which, having regard to the existing pressure of urgent work on the Departments concerned, I do not consider would be warranted. If the Deputy will repeat his questions at a later date, say, in six months' time, I shall be prepared to consider whether the information can readily be supplied.
