asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state what was the report of the engineers of his Department in connection with the Slievardaha Collieries and if and when it is proposed to start work there and if he is aware that the miners who are out of employment are anxious to have work started immediately.

The Slieveardagh coal area was inspected, not by engineers of my Department, but by a firm of consulting mining engineers on my behalf. Their report recommends further technical investigation of the area and the steps necessary to give effect to their recommendations are at present under consideration. The question of development in the area depends upon the result of these further investigations.
