Vol. 55 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Discharge of Auxiliary Postman.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state why John Browne was discharged from his position as auxiliary postman at Mountain Lodge Post Office in the Cootehill postal district of County Cavan.

The services of John Browne, auxiliary postman at Mountain Lodge Post Office, Cootehill, County Cavan, were terminated, in accordance with the regulations, on the 7th October, 1933, because he was over 70 years of age.

Can the Minister say if this man's discharge was not due to some local pressure?

Mr. Boland

He was 70 years of age and there is no power to keep a man in the service over 70 years of age and Deputy Doyle knows that well.

Are there any others over 70 years of age in the service?

Mr. Boland

I understand there are not. There is a finance regulation that no employes are to be kept after the age of 70 years.
