Vol. 55 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Extension of Free Beef Scheme.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether in view of the fact that persons in receipt of disablement benefit under the Health Insurance Acts are in most cases chronic invalids who have exhausted the full period of 26 weeks' sickness benefit he is prepared to extend the free beef scheme so as to include such persons within its scope.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is prepared to extend the free beef scheme so as to include within its scope the large number of blind persons in receipt of blind persons' pensions who are suffering great privations.

I propose to reply to Questions Nos. 22 and 23 together. The future operation of the scheme for the distribution of beef to necessitous persons is at present under consideration. The question whether any additional classes of recipients should be included will receive attention.
