Vol. 55 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bounty on Calf Skins.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether the bounty of 12/6 will be payable on calf skins flayed from calves slaughtered prior to April 1st, 1935, and if not if he will state how the Department propose to differentiate between skins which are eligible for the bounty and those which are not.

Dr. Ryan

Bounty will be payable on calf skins flayed before the 1st April, 1935, provided that the prescribed conditions are complied with, viz., that each skin must have two forelegs attached and must not exceed 18 lbs. in weight.

Is the Minister not aware that some of those calves have been bought for 1/- apiece in the last three months?

Is the Minister satisfied that a lot of fraud is contemplated and that people have bought calf skins and have held them over awaiting the bounty—is there any information on that matter?

Dr. Ryan

I hope they will not have the two legs attached to them.

Is the Minister not aware that the four legs have been left on?

Dr. Ryan

That is true, they could have been.
