Vol. 55 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Primary Education Questions.

asked the Minister for Education whether he is yet in a position to announce his decision in regard to the matters discussed at the conference on inspection which took place between his Department and representatives of the Irish National Teachers' Organisation on December 11th and 12th, 1934.

I am not yet in a position to announce a decision.

The issues discussed at the conference are still under consideration.

Mr. Murphy

Will the Minister indicate when is a decision likely to be made public?

I cannot say.

Mr. Murphy

Is the Minister aware that the I.N.T.O. and the members of this House have had to complain about the difficulty of getting information from his Department?

asked the Minister for Education whether he has yet sent any reply to the Irish National Teachers' Organisation in regard to the scheme submitted by the Organisation on November 7th for the conduct of the Primary Certificate Examination, and if not, if he can state when he hopes to be in a position to do so.

A reply on this matter was addressed to the Irish National Teachers' Organisation on the 13th instant.

asked the Minister for Education whether frequent representations have been made to him by the Irish National Teachers' Organisation regarding the number of teachers who lose, or are in danger of losing, their positions through the decrease in the attendance at their schools; whether he has now fully considered the memorandum on this question submitted to him by the Irish National Teachers' Organisation in July, 1934, and later discussed with him at an interview on October 13th, 1934, and if so, if he will state whether all or any of the changes suggested by the teachers will be made in the existing regulations, or what steps does his Department propose to take to deal with this serious problem.

Representations have been made to me as stated by the Deputy. The matter is still under consideration.
