Vol. 56 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Factories and Workshops.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state in respect of the year 1934 (a) the number of industrial inspectors employed in his Department; (b) the number of (1) factories, and (2) workshops on the register; (c) the number of such concerns inspected for the purpose of the Factory Act, 1901; (d) the number of prosecutions instituted against persons contravening any of the provisions of that Act, and (e) the number of convictions secured.

The number of industrial inspectors employed is one chief factory inspector, two senior inspectors and ten industrial inspectors, but it has been found necessary from time to time to detach some of these officers for more urgent duties in other branches of my Department. The report containing the information sought by the Deputy in relation to the enforcement of the Factory and Workshops Acts during 1934 is in course of preparation and will, I hope, be available at a comparatively early date.
