Vol. 56 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Public Carriers—Wages and Conditions.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether it is his intention when issuing licences to public carriers other than railway companies, or renewing such licences, to insert provisions, in virtue of the powers conferred on him by the Road Transport Acts, in relation to the wages and conditions of employment of employees engaged in the operation of the vehicles used for the purposes of the licensee's business and, if so, what are the terms of such wages and conditions inserted in such licences.

Every licence granted under the Road Transport Acts to a public carrier, whether of passengers or merchandise, contains a condition requiring the business to be carried on so as to provide reasonable conditions of employment to the licensee's employees engaged in the operation of the services. It has not been found necessary to prescribe detailed rates and conditions in licences.
