asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in respect of each of the last five years the amounts paid by way of allowances to officers in the public services for the use of portion of their private residences for official purposes and the number of officers to whom such payments were made.

As the reply contains a considerable number of figures, I propose to circulate it with the Official Report.

The following table gives the number of officers and the payments by the Departments concerned:—
