Vol. 58 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - “Shredded Wheat.”

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that the proprietary food known as "Shredded Wheat" is a different type of article from "Wheat Flakes" which it is intended to manufacture in the Irish Free State, and whether he will withdraw the restriction on its importation.

My information is that the "Wheat Flakes" which it is proposed to manufacture in the Irish Free State in the near future are a close substitute for "Shredded Wheat."

The importation of "Shredded Wheat" is prohibited by law and I am not prepared to promote amending legislation for the purpose of removing this restriction; nor can I see my way to issue licences for its importation at the moment.
