Vol. 59 No. 13

Customs Duties (Preferential Rates) (Canned Fruit) Order, 1935.—Approval Motion.

I move:—

That Dáil Eireann hereby approves of Customs Duties (Preferential Rates) (Canned Fruit) Order, 1935, made on the 1st day of November, 1935, by the Executive Council under the Customs Duties (Preferential Rates) Act, 1934 (No. 19 of 1934).

This resolution is introduced in accordance with Section 5 of the Act, which provides that any Order made under it shall be submitted for approval to Dáil Eireann within three months after it has been made. The Customs Duties (Preferential Rates) (Canned Fruit) Order appointed the Dominion of Canada, the Commonwealth of Australia and the Union of South Africa as the countries to which the preferential rates fixed in the Finance Act of 1935 in respect of canned fruit and syrup, should apply. The effect of the Preferential Rates Order was to reduce the duty on these articles imported from the countries mentioned from 4?ths of a penny per lb. to 4d. per lb. in respect of certain classes and from 2?ths of a penny per lb. to 2d. per lb. in respect of other classes.

Question put and agreed to.
