Vol. 60 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tobacco Industry.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he established an advisory committee under Section 30 of the Tobacco Act, 1934; and, if so, whether he will indicate the manner in which the committee is constituted; further, if he will state the rates of wages paid and the conditions of employment observed at rehandling stations, and whether it is his intention to make an Order under the Tobacco Act prescribing rates of pay and conditions of employment at such rehandling stations.

I have not established an advisory committee under Section 30, sub-section (5) of the Tobacco Act, 1934. My Department is not in a position at short notice to give information as to the rates of wages paid and the conditions of employment observed at rehandling stations generally. I am prepared to consider any application made by responsible bodies of workers that I should make an Order under Section 30, sub-section (1) fixing minimum piece or time rates of wages to be paid to persons employed at rehandling stations.
