Vol. 60 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Brick and Cashen Drainage Scheme (Kerry).

asked the Minister for Finance if the report of the engineers who have been exploring the possibilities of the Brick and Cashen drainage scheme in County Kerry for a number of years has yet been received by his Department; and, if so, when he expects the work to commence; and, if not, how soon does he think the report will be available for consideration so as to ensure that no further time will be lost in carrying out this most necessary work; also, if he is aware that a number of minor relief schemes have been held up in that district on the ground that they are to be included in the general drainage scheme when it is carried out.

The engineering investigations which are being conducted by the Commissioners of Public Works with regard to the drainage of the Brick and Cashen rivers have not yet been completed. The problem of devising a satisfactory scheme is one of considerable difficulty and it is unlikely that the final engineering recommendations will be available before the end of 1936. Applications have been received for grants from the Relief Fund in respect of a number of small drainage works in the district. In general, such works are not suitable for execution as minor relief schemes, as they cannot be carried out satisfactorily during the winter months.
