Vol. 60 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of County Kilkenny Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands whether it has been represented to him that in the public interest it is essential to acquire certain lands in the district of Sheestown, County Kilkenny, for distribution among the uneconomic holders and landless men in the neighbourhood; whether the lands referred to are let in grazing and have been so used for a considerable time; and whether he is in a position to state when they will be acquired for distribution and the steps that have been taken to date towards this end.

The Land Commission have taken steps to investigate the question of the acquisition of untenanted land for distribution amongst uneconomic holders in the district of Sheestown. Inspections of certain estates have already taken place and further inspections are to follow in other cases. Inquiries are also proceeding in relation to other estates in the neighbourhood.
