Vol. 60 No. 9

Supplementary Estimate—Unemployment Insurance and Unemployment Assistance.

I move:

That leave be given by the Dáil to introduce the following Supplementary Estimate for the service of the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1936, namely:—

Vote No.—

61 (Unemployment Insurance and Unemployment Assistance).

Leave granted.

When will the Estimate be taken?

It is proposed to take it to-morrow.

When will it be circulated?

This evening.

I would like to ask what is the urgency for taking this Estimate? This is the first we heard of it.

The urgency is because we expect to take the Vote on Account next week.

Does the Minister hope to conclude the discussion of this Estimate to-morrow?

I hope so.

What about Private Members' time?

That is a matter for the House to decide.

If this Estimate is not to go through to-morrow, there is little value in taking it to-morrow, and it would be better for the Minister to leave the matter over till Wednesday.

There are practical difficulties in the way. We must dispose of the Estimate in order that we may print the Vote on Account.

Will the Minister facilitate us in getting the Estimate early?

We will endeavour to have it early this evening. The amount of the Estimate is £13,380.

What is the reason for the introduction of the Estimate?

I may say that £10,000 is in respect of unemployment assistance and the balance is in relation to staff and minor matters.

Ordered: That the Estimate be taken to-morrow.
