Vol. 60 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Release of Military Tribunal Prisoners.

asked the Minister for Justice whether it is the intention that the prisoners now detained arising out of sentences imposed on them by the Military Tribunal will be released at an early date; and, if so, whether he will state when the order for release should issue, and whether the release order will apply to all prisoners sentenced by the tribunal who are now in custody; and, if not, on what grounds will exceptions be made.

The power to remit sentences imposed by the Constitution (Special Powers) Tribunal is vested in the Executive Council. I cannot make any statement by way of anticipation of the manner in which that power may be exercised, or whether it will be exercised at all in all or any of the cases to which the Deputy refers.
