Vol. 61 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Contracts for Milk Supplies.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will direct all health organisations and health authorities now about advertising their summer contracts that the minimum standard of milk to be accepted must be what is known as grade "C" in Great Britain and Northern Ireland, viz., milk produced from cows clinically examined periodically by a veterinary officer of the Ministry and certified to be normal and healthy.

Local authorities advertising for tenders for the supply of milk under free milk supply schemes have been recommended to give preference to milk from tuberculin-tested cows, and where such milk is not available at a reasonable price, to take precautions that the contractor selected shall be in a position to supply pure milk. His cattle and dairy premises are to be inspected regularly by the veterinary inspector and samples of the milk supplied are to be tested from time to time both as regards quality and purity. All advertisements for milk contracts have now been published as such contracts commence on 1st. proximo.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, is he aware that last year the Dublin Board of Assistance inserted such a condition as the Minister now says such authorities have been advised to insert, and his Department deleted that condition?

I am not aware of that.

Well, unfortunately I am.
