Vol. 61 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fishery Commission's Report.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state whether it is proposed to introduce a Bill embodying the recommendations contained in the report of the Fishery Commission, and, if so, when he proposes to introduce such a Bill.

Dr. Ryan

As I mentioned during the Fisheries Estimate debate on the 21st April, certain legislative proposals relative to our inland fisheries are now the subject of inter-Departmental discussions. I am not yet in a position to indicate how far the recommendations in the report presented by the Inland Fisheries Commission will be embodied in the Bill which I am anxious to introduce as soon as possible.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state when the evidence given before the Fishery Commission will be available for the public, or to Deputies.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the names, addresses and occupations, in so far as they were connected with fishing, of each of the 124 witnesses examined by the Fishery Commission.

Dr. Ryan

I think it will be convenient if I deal with these questions together.

It is not proposed to print the evidence given before the Inland Fisheries Commission. I have, however, caused to be placed in the Oireachtas Library a bound copy in typescript of that evidence complete with index. Reference to the index will enable the Deputy to ascertain the general standing in relation to the fishing industry of the various witnesses who appeared before the commission.

When will that be available?

Dr. Ryan

It is available.
